Going from tonal to colour

My background is in graphic design. Graphic design means sharp and crisp shapes, bright contrasts… think of typeface, logo design. There the shape needs to stand out from the background, it has to catch your attention. Years of working in graphic design prove to be a bit hard for me to let go. In my art I was trying to replicate the same thing, sharp shapes, crisp contrast, few main colours… But, tats not what fine art is about. It is about myriads of colour, slight tonal changes and subtle colours. It is work in process for me, I’m learning to adopt new approach in my paintings applying all those amazing colours that we see around us. Here’s my attempt.

Acrylic on paper, A3.
